4th-5th September – Weekend Update

Gliding & Picnics

With the weekend looking like a scorcher, budding pilots flocked to the airfield in hopes of a promising weekend. Saturday saw a turnout of 12, with one trial flight success. A congratulations to Fg Off Chris Harrington on completing his first solo in a club K21, onto the Astir next! Saturday finished with 52 launches heading into a beautiful Lincolnshire evening.

Sunday was a different story. Having been briefed on Cranwell Families Day, members arrived at the hangar for an early 0700 start. With plenty of trainees looking to be flown, the dream airfield management team of Morag Allan and Flt Lt Luke Dale to not only fly everyone, but also achieved in sending off a second new solo pilot of the weekend. Keith Campbell, who was launched by his own son, took to the skies after being approved by Ron Beezer, for multiple successful flights. In the short time we were flying, we managed over an additional 30 flights to the weekend total.

By 1400, we were packed away and ready to engage in the evenings events. As well as members of the team who stayed to watch the fireworks put on by the station, they made the club proud by recruiting and increasing the clubs presence at the college we are proud to call home.
